  • you want to participate fully in work related discussions and decision-making

  • you want to be better able to communicate complex ideas under time pressure
  • you lack confidence when speaking in business contexts
  • you struggle to express yourself under time pressure
  • you want to focus on your speaking skills
  • you want to develop your English fluency
  • your English level is Higher Intermediate (B2)
  • your English level is Advanced (C1) but you lack confidence speaking

This course probably isn’t for you if:

  • your English level is B1 or lower

What will I learn and do?

During this ten-week course, you will learn key language and communication techniques that will help you express yourself more naturally in business contexts.

We’ll use a  Task Based Learning approach.  This allows you to practise the English you need and provides lots of opportunities for you to express your ideas and opinions.

We’ll also spend some time focusing on the language you used (or didn’t use!) in the task to improve your accuracy and develop your fluency.

You will learn key expressions, phrases or chunks of language.

You will notice and learn useful grammatical structures and patterns.

We’ll also use a Flipped Classroom approach – check out our blog post here to find out what a Flipped Classroom is and how it will benefit you.

After the first class you will have FREE 20 minute Needs Assessment  in which Bernie can find out more about you, your English language needs and help you set some learning goals.

Bernie’s course will support your learning through:

Recordings of classes emailed to you within 24 hours, so you can go over the lesson again

Ongoing teacher feedback and support for the ten weeks

Classes taught using the flipped classroom approach – tasks that can be done alone like extended listening won’t be done in class to really maximise learning .

Language practice activities and exercises targeted for your individual needs.

Extensive feedback on any tasks completed outside of class and during class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will the classes take place?

All classes will be on Zoom.

What if I miss a week?

Don’t worry, you will receive the week’s tasks anyway, you can listen to any audio tracks, watch any videos, do any of the language exercises and you can still submit the homework.  You will also receive a recording of the lesson so you can stay on track.

What if I’m not happy with my class?

If you’re not happy with the class for whatever reason, you are able to get a full refund if you raise this within 7 days of your first lesson.

How much homework do I have every week?

Each week you will be given two or three  short ‘Pre-class Tasks’ to complete before the lesson.  These may be learning some vocabulary, brainstorming ideas with your classmates, watching a video etc.  You will receive teacher support and feedback on these tasks.

You will also receive some suggested homework to practise what we have covered in class.  Some of this will be for everyone in the class and some will be targeted at your specific English language needs.

Why do you recommend joining the class on PC/Mac?

Because some of the platforms work best on PC/Mac.  If you have a problem with this, don’t worry, you can still join on your mobile, but you will maximise the benefit if you can join on your PC.

What materials do you use?

I use a wide variety of authentic materials, such as videos, news articles etc.

Do you have any other courses for using English in business contexts?

Yes! I have also created a Business Presentations Workshop which will be available in the new year.

How can I contact you outside class time?

Feel free to send me an email anytime on bernie@redbrick.coop and I will reply within 24 hours (or on the Monday if you send at the weekend)

When will I have my FREE Needs Assessment?

This will be arranged with your personally after the first ‘live’ class.

How do I pay?

You can pay with credit card, direct bank transfer or via PayPal (you can also split the payment over 3 months for no additional charge if you choose PayPal).
